Daddy Duty & Eight is Not Enough! ~ Flats and Handwashing Challenge Day 5

Flats & Handwashing Challenge Day 5!!!

First of all, I am so proud of my husband! He has truly entered the ranks of a CDD (Cloth Diaper Daddy) with one of his recent Google searches "origami diaper fold". He also gets points because while doing this he was giving me time for a much needed nap! He's always used pre-folds with finesse and pocket diapers with no problem. But waking up to see my baby in a sateen sheet flat in a perfect origami fold covered by a piece of rain poncho brought happiness to my heart. Good job honey!

Today, I just had a Mommy-brain moment. I left the house without diapers or wipes. I knew I was going to be gone for an extended period of time (what ended up being 7 hours) and it completely slipped my mind to grab the dried dipes from the bathroom. Of course Jaron decided that it was time to set a record while we were out, poopsplosion central! So, while I had to compromise a bit on my personal "found" diapers only challenge, I did have 2 Osocozy flats and an Econobum cover in the bottom of the diaper bag, so the overall challenge is still going strong.

Yesterday also found me in a bind. I was out of diapers. Jaron was setting another record and eight diapers was simply not enough to make it through the day. So, I looked around a spotted a flannel receiving blanket. I originally had included one in my stash, but then cut it out for a reason I can't remember. But it's back and today I will feature that diaper and what may become a new favorite fold for me. If it has another name then please let me know, but I'm dubbing it the bow-tie fold. I love that has a ton of layers in the wet zone and the a twist for even more layers right where you need it. You can twist high or low depending on the babies gender and where the extra layers would work best. because of all the layers it folds down pretty small, I'd recommend it as a newborn fold and a fold for smaller babies. Jaron is not quite 7 months, is about 25" and 15lbs.

As far as fabric goes, I love flannel, it's soft, absorbent and comes in tons of cute prints. Receiving blankets are great, because there always tend to be a few extra around the house. They are large and stay pretty square so they'll even work well on a toddler. I'd thought that this would be pretty bulky, but in fact is was very trim and I was easily able to cover it with the poncho cover.

BOW-TIE FOLD
Fold blanket in half

Take the right side and fold 2/3 of the length over, my thumb is where the left edge is.
Begin to fold back towards the right to make a pad in the center
This winds up as 2 layers on the left,  8 - 10 in the middle, and 4 on the right
Lay baby down, twist between the legs and bring up
Pull back wings around and pin to the CENTER PANEL!
Pinning back wings to the front wings will allow the diaper to unfold.
All covered and ready to go!
I really do love this fold, the twist really trims it up in between the legs and gives it a high rise in the hips that should work well under modern covers.

  1. As far as I know it's a Milk Bubbles original fold! I just needed something that I thought would work and be trim so I played around until it became this one!
